History of Lucknow Science City
The Science City in Lucknow is a center for science designed and developed by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM). It’s a satellite unit of the National Science Centre, Delhi.
It started as a small science center in 1989 to popularise an interest in science among people. It was a stepping stone for bringing interactive science learning to Lucknow. And it has been a popular place for kids to learn science in a casual and fun environment.
In 2007, the science center was upgraded and expanded to form the Regional Science City it is today.
Things to do at Regional Science City Lucknow
1. Exploring the themed galleries – Regional Science City Lucknow has several exhibition halls with working models and audio-video visuals of various scientific concepts. You can see a demonstration of the principles of hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and fluidics. Then, you can explore the aspects of biotechnology, the human mind, marine life and others. Different galleries on daily experiences with science are also present here.
2. Watching the science shows – The science city also runs several shows on its premises. Its Scimax movie theatre is an air-conditioned hall with world-class facilities for film projection. Then, you can enjoy a short 3D show in Science City Lucknow. Another attraction here is the Taramandal show, where you can learn about space and stars.
3. Enjoying the lush green parks – Science City Park Lucknow has several large models of simple machines and scientific phenomena in an open field. You’ll also find dinosaurs and many other prehistoric creatures in the park.
4. Taking part in the activities – Apart from the exhibits, this center for science also hosts several educational activities and programs around the year. It has conference halls and an auditorium for these. Science demonstration lectures on Physics, Chemistry, and Life Science are also arranged here.
Regional Science City Lucknow Timings and Entry Fees
Lucknow Science City opening hours are from 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM. It’s open every day except for Holi and Diwali celebrations. So, you can plan your visit on any day.
Entry tickets are available only until 5 PM, though.
For general visitors, the Regional Science City Lucknow ticket price is ₹25 per person. The ticket includes entry only to the science center galleries. Scimax show tickets are available at ₹50, 3D show at ₹20, and Taramandal show at ₹10.
Then, Science Demonstration Lectures (SDL) entry charges are ₹10 per person.
Discounted prices for large groups and school students are also available. Children (up to 3.4 feet in height), specially-abled and defense personnel can get free entry to the galleries.
Science City Lucknow 3D show timings are 12 noon and 4.45 PM in English and 3.15 PM in Hindi. SCIMAX show timings are 11.30 AM and 1 PM in English and 2.15 PM in Hindi. And Taramandal show timings are 11 AM and 3.30 PM in English and 1.30 PM in Hindi.
